How do you repair Active Desktop in Windows XP




Option #1

1.     Open the Control Panel 
2.     Open Display Properties
3.     Click the Desktop tab
4.    Click the Customize Desktop button 
5.    Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.

Option #2

1.    Right click on desktop
2.    Select properties
3.    Themes
4.    Change your current theme

Once you have done this, you should be able to go back to your original theme without the problem appearing.

Option#3

If that doesn't work, try searching for a file called desktop.htt and deleting it (it is a hidden file so go to "advanced search" and make sure to check the box to search for hidden files). You can also try manually deleting this file, it should be located in your "Document and Settings" under your username

How to Create a New User in Windows 7


If my computer is on a domain

  1. Open Microsoft Management Console by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, typing mmc into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER.‌ Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. In the left pane of Microsoft Management Console, click Local Users and Groups.

    If you don't see Local Users and Groups

    If you don't see Local Users and Groups, it's probably because that snap-in has not been added to Microsoft Management Console. Follow these steps to install it:
    1. In Microsoft Management Console, click the File menu, and then click Add/Remove Snap-in.
    2. Click Local Users and Groups, and then click Add.
    3. Click Local computer, and then click Finish.
    4. Click OK.
  3. Click the Users folder.
  4. Click Action, and then click New User.
  5. Type the appropriate information in the dialog box, and then clickCreate.
  6. When you are finished creating user accounts, click Close.

If my computer is on a workgroup

  1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety, and then clickingUser Accounts.
  2. Click Manage another accountAdministrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  3. Click Create a new account.
  4. Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type, and then click Create Account.

How to Display or Remove Recycle Bin in Windows 7


The Recycle Bin usually appears on the desktop. If you prefer, you can hide it.

To show or hide the Recycle Bin on the desktop

  1. Open Personalization by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Personalization, and then clicking Personalization.
  2. In the left pane, click Change desktop icons, and then do one of the following:
    • To remove the Recycle Bin from the desktop, clear the Recycle Bin check box.
    • To display the Recycle Bin on the desktop, select the Recycle Bin check box.
  3. Click OK.
